Getting Started: Your First Steps to Starting a Monopoly Fundraiser

So you have decided you want to do a Townopoly fundraiser using Opoly Games, but now what? Where do you start? I am going to go over some of the first steps you should take when starting your Opoly Games fundraiser to make it go as smooth as possible. I recommend talking amongst your group so you can decide on a few of these important points.
What amount of games to order?
Before you get started selling ad spots your first thing you should figure out is how many games you are going to order. Since your ad spot sales will determine how many games you can order we recommend talking amongst members of your group and deciding on what amount for an ad spot you would feel comfortable with selling to local businesses. For example on a 500 game order the average ad spot costs $245, and on a 750 game order an average ad spot will cost $350. So for an extra $105 you are able to order 250 more games which you will then be able to sell for more profit and also will have 250 more households with eyes on the game and ad spots generating more ad traffic. So something to think about would be, do you think you are able to sell ad spots at $350+ to local businesses to raise money for your game, if not go down to the lower amount or vise versa. These ad spot sales will cover the entire production cost of your game so its important to decide on a game quantity before starting your ad spot sales campaign. You can check our pricing and average ad spot cost on our pricing page here.
The number of games you plan to order will directly impact the profit you can make with your fundraiser. For example, if you decide to order 500 games and sell each game for $25, you have the potential to earn $12,500. Since the production costs of your games are covered by ad sales, that’s 100% profit!
When do you want your games delivered?
We print games in batches, with approximately six batches per year, each spaced about 2-3 months apart. It’s a good idea to start thinking about when you’d like your games delivered so you can set a target and ensure everything is completed on time. This also helps us organize each batch with the correct organizations. Once you decide on a batch date and order quantity, let us know so we can keep track. Don’t worry—this isn’t permanent, and you can make changes at any time. It simply helps us both stay organized.
What information are you going to include on your ad spots?
An important aspect of starting your Monopoly fundraiser is the design, which includes all the ad spots. Our recommendation is to include the business’s logo, phone number, address, and website for each ad spot. Other options you could include on each ad spot are a QR code or additional business details. However, keep in mind that space is limited, so it’s best to focus on including only the most important information. You’ll need to gather this information from each business as you sell the ad spots and relay it to us. This will ensure each business is represented accurately and according to their preferences on the board game. If you want your game to have a specific design, you can limit the information that businesses include on their ad spaces. Planning your sales strategy
Now that you have your game quantity and ad spot idea planned out, you should focus on your ad sales strategy. We recommend getting a group of 1-4 people to contact businesses and sell ad spots. This should be a small organized effort to sell all your ad spots as quickly and efficiently as possible. It should not take you more than 1 month to sell all of your ad spots if you have a small well organized group. In-person sales, email outreach, and phone calls are all effective methods for selling ad spots. Make sure to organize this so multiple members of your group are not reaching out to the same businesses. You want to get across to businesses that is a unique, fun way to advertise that will reach more people for a smaller amount of money than other forms of advertising. For example, on a 500-game order, the average ad space cost is $245, meaning businesses can reach 500 households for just $0.49 per household! Plus, these ads are not a one-time view—they’re featured on games that residents in their town will play and enjoy for many years to come!
Conclusion
These are all important factors to consider while planning your Townopoly fundraiser. Once these details are finalized, the rest of the process will go much more smoothly. When you’re ready to get started on your game, feel free to contact us—we’re here to help every step of the way!
